LOCAL@
South Devon is renowned for its variety of excellent produce and
quality products. This year Hoburne Torbay are offering an additional
menu in the restaurant which will give you the opportunity to
sample a range of locally-sourced and organic produce, most of
which will come from nearby Occombe Farm.
The menu will include
- organic baguettes filled with organic pork or organic farmhouse cheddar
- burgers made with organic pork served in white floured organic baps
- succulent organic pork sausages
- a selection of pies made with a choice of organic meats
- local "red soil" potato wedges
- locally-sourced ice cream and organic drinks
Most of the produce available from this menu is supplied by
Occombe Farm, a project of Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust.

The Trust is an environmental charity looking after many of
Torbay's wild places and heritage sites. Occombe is a 150 acre
organic farm with a mixture of pasture, wet meadows and woodland.
At its heart the farm also has a Site of Special Scientific
Interest meaning that the area has important habitat features
and species that need to be protected. The farm has remained
unimproved since World War two and as such represents a fragment
of our country's farming past.

A 2km nature trail meanders around the farm and the nature reserve
and it is also linked to an Audio-trail. It starts from and
returns to the Visitor Centre and Café building and utilises
boardwalks where the ground is wet. The trail forms a rough
figure of eight so you don't have to walk the whole length of
it. Along the trail are links to an Audio-trail commentary delivered
through special handsets available at the Visitor Centre. A
network of wildlife cameras has been installed in bird boxes
and around the farm to beam pictures back to the Visitor Centre.
The Occombe Butchery supplies a wide range of local organic cuts and the Organic Bakery supplies a range of breads and other
baked goods.
